    Get outside. We live in Maine and when the sun is shining, we get out and soak it up. Seek out winter plants, tracks, and stars … watercolor them and notebook. Show enthusiasm and your kids will likely follow along.

    I think a way to beat the winter doldrums is to find traditions to do just in the winter. For example we do a lot with gingerbread, we read many different books, decorate gingerbread, etc. We also read a lot of winter based books. It makes the winter much more exciting.
