Journeys through the Ancient World 2nd Edition Teacher's Guide
by Debbie Strayer & Linda Fowler
Journeys through the Ancient World is the much awaited continuation in the Trail Guide to Learning Series. Paths, the first three levels of this curriculum, establishes a firm foundation of our American heritage at the elementary level. Now, Journeys leads students through the fascinating study of world history at the middle school level.
In embarking on their Journeys through the Ancient World your students will be transported into four important early civilizations—Egypt, Israel, Greece, and Rome. The Bible is an essential part of this study, as both an historical and a literary text. And this is completely understandable, since it is one of very few eyewitness accounts of history unfolding at a time before written records were common.
This unique look at ancient civilizations is presented from the perspective of the Israelites with a Hebraic world view as opposed to a classical view through the eyes of the Greeks. Your family will develop a sound foundation of biblical thought which results in recognizing and avoiding secular worldview beliefs that have become so pervasive in our modern culture.
This one-year curriculum is presented in four nine-week units. A brief summary of each unit and the books and other resources your student will use during the unit follow.
Journey through the events of ancient history beginning with the time of the patriarchs and Egypt. Read about the reigns of Egyptian pharaohs and delve into the suffering of the Israelite slaves. Discover how worldviews are shaped and focus on the details of your own beliefs. Learn the lay of ancient lands and combine that knowledge with historical references and Bible readings to create a Biblical timeline of history. Study Hebrew and learn to write the beautiful symbolic language scripts, and learn about astronomy and its importance in ancient cultures. Besides growing in the knowledge of scholarly subjects, students begin developing the art of self-analyzation and accepting constructive criticism by evaluating their own daily habits.
