$300.00 $60.00

Journeys through the Ancient World is the much awaited continuation in the Trail Guide to Learning Series. Paths, the first three levels of this curriculum, establishes a firm foundation of our American heritage at the elementary level. Now, Journeys leads students through the fascinating study of world history at the middle school level.

In embarking on their Journeys through the Ancient World your students will be transported into four important early civilizations—Egypt, Israel, Greece, and Rome. The Bible is an essential part of this study, as both an historical and a literary text. And this is completely understandable, since it is one of very few eyewitness accounts of history unfolding at a time before written records were common.

This unique look at ancient civilizations is presented from the perspective of the Israelites with a Hebraic world view as opposed to a classical view through the eyes of the Greeks. Your family will develop a sound foundation of biblical thought which results in recognizing and avoiding secular worldview beliefs that have become so pervasive in our modern culture.

This one-year curriculum is presented in four nine-week units. A brief summary of each unit and the books and other resources your student will use during the unit follow.

Journey through the events of ancient history beginning with the time of the patriarchs and Egypt. Read about the reigns of Egyptian pharaohs and delve into the suffering of the Israelite slaves. Discover how worldviews are shaped and focus on the details of your own beliefs. Learn the lay of ancient lands and combine that knowledge with historical references and Bible readings to create a Biblical timeline of history. Study Hebrew and learn to write the beautiful symbolic language scripts, and learn about astronomy and its importance in ancient cultures. Besides growing in the knowledge of scholarly subjects, students begin developing the art of self-analyzation and accepting constructive criticism by evaluating their own daily habits.

In addition to the core resources, Unit 1 uses the following materials:

Continue the journey through ancient cultures with daily readings that draw students deeper into the lives and experiences of the Israelite people. Expand vocabulary skills by considering words and meanings used in the books of days gone by. Grow in the understanding of Bible geography and continue developing a Biblical timeline of history. Heighten student awareness of God’s limitless abilities through astronomy lessons detailing the vast solar system. Instruction from the Biblical Hebrew Primer deepens the ability to understand Old Testament phrases and events. Daily exercises in workload and stress management, combined with opportunities to improve writing skills, set the stage for continued personal growth.

In addition to the core resources, Unit 2 uses the following materials:

Continue to learn about the formation of worldviews and how they affect the lives of all people throughout history. See Greek mythology and the expectations of Greek gods through the eyes of the Hebrew God of the Bible. Improve listening and reading comprehension abilities through the Focus for Listening questions within each lesson. Geography focuses on the transitions of borders, people, and nations during this time in Greece’s history. Hebrew lessons incorporate traditional cultural songs, as well as translations of passages. Personal study time expands to evaluate how well students pay attention to and retain information.

In addition to the core resources, Unit 3 uses the following materials:

Travel to Rome in the final installment of Journeys through the Ancient World. Explore Roman mythology and the expectations of their gods in contrast with the Hebrew God of the Bible. Strengthen Hebrew language skills by transcribing passages from the book of Jonah. The ability to self-analyze and measure personal progress is further develped with daily independent study sessions. Continue to learn the intricacies of astronomy and the solar system and complete this journey of the ancient world with entertaining games that bring it all together.
